What can I expect from an anti wrinkle injections or a dermal filler ‘tweakment’ or lip filler procedure from Dr Gracia Rose?
After your initial consultation if Dr Gracia Rose feels that she can meet your aesthetic goals she will invite you to book an appointment through the Glowday portal. This will take details about your past medical history and will take payment details (please note your card will only be charged after the treatment is delivered and with your permission). Anti- Wrinkle injection FAQs
What are anti wrinkle injections?
Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by a bacteria that stops muscles from working. The 'Botulinum toxin type A' used for anti wrinkle injections acts as a muscle relaxant by partially blocking nerve impulses to any muscles that have been injected. This reduces excessive contractions of these muscles of expression and therefore botulinum toxin softens wrinkles.
Is Botulinum toxin the same as Botox® or Bocouture® or Azzalure®?
Botox® is a licensed brand of Botulinum Toxin A. Other licensed brands include: Bocouture®, and Azzalure®. They all have slightly different characteristics and effects. Dr Gracia will tailor the product choice and treatment in order to achieve your desired aesthetic goals.
How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?
The anti wrinkle results usually last 3-4 months after an injection and the recovery of some movement will begin from 8 weeks onwards. The repetition of treatment will deliver greater results, as the muscles will begin to become weaker with time.
The frequency of treatments may be reduced, depending upon your skin type and your response to treatment. If you decide you do not wish to maintain the results achieved and do not have any further treatment your muscles and skin will return to their pre injected state.
Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?
I use very small needles to minimise any discomfort, my clients have described the procedure as being virtually painless and one client commented that it hurts more to tweeze your eyebrows!. Please see my reviews for more information.
What should I do before my anti-wrinkle injection appointment ?
It is important you tell Dr Gracia Rose about any medicines or dietary supplements you are taking as some supplements and medicines can adversely affect the way the toxin works, or may increase your risk of bruising.
Make sure you book your toxin treatment 2-4 weeks before any special event so that there is time for it to work and for you to have any top ups.
Avoid consuming alcohol at least 24 hours before treatment.
Avoid medication that can thin your blood at least 24 hours before toxin treatment, this includes anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and aspirin.
Makeup will need to be removed prior to the injections.
What should I do after I have anti-wrinkle injections?
Try to do small contractions of the muscles treated every 20 minutes for the first few hours to encourage the product to start working.
Avoid touching the injected areas and wearing makeup for 24 hours treatment.
When cleansing choose a gentle option and apply in soft strokes away from the eyes, do not apply too much pressure.
Do not lie down or fall asleep or massage the treated area for at least 4 hours.
Avoid consuming alcohol for 24 hours after treatment.
Avoid microdermabrasion, facials, chemical peels, or facial massages for at least two weeks after.
Avoid going into the sun or hot baths and saunas for 24 hours.
Please do not wear tight caps or garments in the areas that have been treated.
Can anti wrinkle treatments go wrong?
As Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles, it may cause muscle weakness near the injection site such as: a droopy eye lift, difficulty in closing your eye or a droopy mouth, if injected incorrectly near the eye or near the mouth.
This is why it is best to have anti injections performed by an experienced and qualified doctor who can analyse your facial features and tailor anti wrinkle injections in order to decrease your chances of the above complications.
As with any injection, potential side-effects include: infection, pain, swelling, burning and stinging, increased sensitivity, tenderness, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising at the site of injection. As with any medication, it may cause an allergic reaction.
All complications will be discussed with clients prior to anti wrinkle treatments being administered.
